If you want to play music while you play, this is not the game for you!
When will iphone/ipod game makers realize that these devices are used for music/podcast FIRST and games SECOND? Let us play our own stuff while playing your game! Although this game does allow you to play your own tracks, if you are playing anything when you start the game, it stops when the game loads. Then you have to start a game, pause the game and select your music. For some reason it has a problem with both smart play lists and genius mixes. Instead I selected an album and resumed game play, but then when my game ended, it reverted to the lame looped tone that is the game sound track - all 20 seconds of it, before it repeats again and again. Maddening! Let me play my music! This is a deal breaker for me. If there was a ZERO star option, I would pick it.
Bomblink is not too far removed from other cascade-based puzzle games such as Pipes or, to a lesser degree, Droplitz. But the problem with Bomblink is its lack of depth both at the mechanic and feature level. Mechanically the game is very clunky. Press a bomb, then swipe in a direction to rotate. It sounds easy, but the play is very halting and jerky; you don't tap or slide, you slide and hold, which makes it difficulty to get a good rhthym going. There are few interesting decisions to be made during the game, as there are only 3 types of bombs, and only 1 type can be rotated. To move a line up during the slow early game, you have to shake the iPhone/Touch, which is a move I've always hated with these accelerometer devices.
Lastly, there are only 3 "modes" and they are all variations on the same thing: infinite lines, 30 lines, or 100 lines. No time limit, puzzle modes, and no multiplayer of any sort, either remote or local hot seat play. Also, there are no social features, so forget about one-upping your friends on Facebook with a new highscore. In short, there's not much to recommend Bomblink for puzzle fans. It will soon by buried underneath the silt of better games in the App's store seemingly endless river of new games.
